I don’t know about you guys, but it is HOT and HUMID where I am right now. Too hot to ride; too hot to do anything but be miserable (maybe I’m being dramatic but I hate this weather!).
I went to the barn midday to check on my horses. I found my mare in her shed, sweating just standing there. She is a heavy sweater, and this is not uncommon for her in the summer.
From a nutrition perspective, it is very important to replenish electrolytes in weather like this! I started adding electrolytes to her feed to make sure what is being lost in sweat is being replaced.
Horses should always have access to salt. (https://podcasts.apple.com/…/59-salt-dr…/id1506330860…)
When they are sweating like this, consider adding electrolytes! And always make sure they are consuming adequate amounts of water.
I recommend IsoBalance (paste) from Redmond and Restore SR (powder or paste) from Kentucky Equine Research.
